THE Bukit Bauk Forest Reserve is situated to the south of the town of Dungun. The 7,287ha area is gazetted as an “educational forest” for ecological and botanical studies. It was found that the area is rich in camphor trees (Dryobalanops aromatica). This area is restricted area for logging and it is rich with many species of trees. The muddy water in the area is a breading ground for tiger prawns, siput gondong, ikan kakak and ikan toman. A third species of the world's smallest fish from the genus Paedocypris has been found in a peat swamp in the foothills. On weekends avid joggers, including those from UiTM Dungun will jog to the summit and get a view of the sea, the golden flames of petroleum refineries in Kertih, which is about 20km away.
