"Tarian Ulek Mayang is another worshiping dance in the Malay dances. The dancing always begins with a person who is suffering from illness either when he catches fish, in the paddy field or any other daily activities in the society. The patient will then healed by a bomoh, a traditional Malay doctor in the traditional way. Seven actors beautifully dressed represent the 7 princess who come to visit the patient when the bomoh is treating him. Kemayan will be burnt together with chanting of pantun and dancing throughout the whole performance. Although Tarian Ulek Mayang was once a folk ritual ceremonial in the Malay society, with its gentle and graceful movement, it has become one of the beautiful traditional dancing in Terengganu culture.
Some of these dances remain part of the agenda during certain occasion or ceremony, such as in a wedding or in a formal official function during which the complete set of music instruments will be used and the entire story of the dance will be carefully performed."

I have heard this dance before because i still remembered when i was kindergarten, my friend and i were performed ulik mayang dance in the dance competition. The story about ulik mayang was very interesting. I was enjoy performed the dance and this dance still perform in some special ocassion and competition.

Tarian Ulek Mayang? I don't know why I still feel creepy about this kind of dance. When someone sing Ulek Mayang song, I started feel spooky than ever. I've heard before that this dance have some spiritual stuff connected with it. They said that the 7 princess would really come if you dance with Ulek Mayang song. Try it, and then tell me please. :D

For me Ulek Mayang is very interesting performance. But sometimes its scary me. Do you remember 2 years ago our UiTM dancer had perform about Ulek Mayang at 31st August, 12:30 a.m. When they sing the song, the sky become weird and suddenly I heard the storm shouting. That's why I don't like Ulek Mayang song until now...

Ulek Mayang has mystery story besides the dance..it was the story i always heard. Many person said that it related the spirit. I don't know how far this fact is true. Personally, the story in the dance can attrack people to know about Ulek Mayang. The special of the dance are combinations about the story in dance and the beautiful dress while performing the dance. Use kemayan is also unique in the dance.

Hai pappy.. What I know about Ulek Mayang is, it is a kind of traditional dance and the song talk about 7 princess that came from other world, not human world. They give spirit to ill person to recover as soon as possible. I think,I do not like this kind of dance because it is hard to understand what they want to tell us.

ulek mayang is a very famous type of dance I guess, because since I was in my kindergarden I use to participate in this dance.I play the role of princess number 6.If I'm no mistaken I used to heard that my teacher said that this dance is haunted, is it? The music that being play when this dance is perform also my make scare to hear it especially at night.

The ulek mayang is a pre-Islamic religious trance dance accompanied by singing and music in Terengganu, originating from an unknown nearby island in which the Malay orchestra, comprising drums, gong, violin and accordion is used. It was originally used in healing ceremonies but is now usually performed for fun. Dancers move in a circle, waving leaves known as mayang pinang, until they faint in a trance. Sometimes the rebab and seruling are also used to accompany the singing which is in the form of rhymes and poem..

ulek mayang dance is one of the legend, but to dance well without possessed, a lot of abstinence need to be carefully handled to make sure the ceremony to be well handled..as it is one kind of worshipping the spirit..it is aberrant from our own religion so be carefull for those very interest to joining the dance of ulet mayang..
